How have sales changed this week? What is in the wallet? Which recent transfers are still progressing?

The information may already be available, but finding the right screen, choosing the right period and interpreting the result can interrupt a busy working day. Conversational reporting offers another way to begin: ask a clear question, retrieve the relevant information and explore what it means.

NeroPay Insights brings this approach to selected NeroPay merchant data. Through a read-only MCP connection, an eligible merchant can use a compatible AI client to explore balances, sales summaries, period comparisons and recent transfer statuses.

The goal is not to replace your dashboard or let an AI assistant operate your finances. It is to make everyday business questions easier to ask—and to keep the answers connected to a defined source.

What is NeroPay Insights?

NeroPay Insights is a set of read-only reporting tools for the merchant account you authorise. A compatible AI client can request information through those tools and explain the result in a conversation.

The connection uses MCP, or Model Context Protocol. In practical terms, MCP gives the AI client a structured way to discover the available tools and request a supported report. It is not unrestricted access to your dashboard, your database or every action in your account.

For example, asking about sales can lead to a sales summary request. Asking an assistant to send money cannot turn that reporting tool into a transfer tool. The available capabilities define the boundary.

Four useful places to start

1. Understand your wallet balance

Insights can show NeroPay wallet and reserve balances separately for each currency. Incoming funds and settlement information can also be included when that breakdown is available.

A useful starting question is:

“Show my NeroPay wallet and reserve balances, separately for each currency.”

There is an important distinction behind that answer: incoming funds are already included in the wallet balance. Adding incoming funds to the wallet again would double-count them. A reporting assistant should explain that relationship, not turn every displayed number into a larger total.

2. Review a defined sales period

The sales summary tool returns gross sales and payment counts over a supported date range of up to 90 days. Results remain separated by currency and channel, helping you distinguish NeroPay-processed payments from recorded cash or third-party card activity.

“Summarise my gross sales and payment counts for the last 7 days, by currency and channel.”

This is a stronger question than “How is my business doing?” It gives the report a period, a measure and a structure. You can then ask the assistant to explain the returned figures without asking it to invent information the report does not contain.

3. Compare like-for-like periods

NeroPay Insights supports comparisons for today so far, the last 7 days and the last 30 days. Today is compared with the same weekday last week up to the same local time. The rolling 7-day and 30-day options compare against the preceding period.

“Compare today’s gross sales so far with the same weekday last week, up to the same time.”

That timing matters. Comparing half of a trading day with an entire previous day can create a misleading impression. Likewise, if the previous period has no sales, a percentage increase should not be presented as a meaningful growth rate.

4. Check recent transfer statuses

The recent transfers tool returns references and request or payout statuses for up to 10 recent transfers. It does not return transfer amounts, bank details or transfer fees, and it cannot create a transfer.

“Show the references and statuses of my five most recent transfers.”

This is useful for finding the right reference to investigate in NeroPay. A status is a progress indicator—not an instruction to move money and not a promise that funds have arrived.

What a useful answer looks like

Imagine a report showing £8,640 in gross sales for one GBP payment channel over the last 7 days, compared with £7,200 in the preceding period. The difference is £1,440, or 20%.

These are illustrative figures, not results from a real merchant account. A useful explanation would identify the currency, the channel and the comparison period. It would not describe the increase as profit, add unrelated currencies together or claim the entire amount is available to withdraw.

The same principle applies to payment counts. The sales tool counts recorded payment receipts; that is not necessarily the same as counting unique orders or individual customers. The words used to describe a number matter as much as the number itself.

Read-only access, with a clear boundary

Connection approval is handled through NeroPay’s sign-in and OAuth permission flow. You choose the supported read-only permissions and can revoke the connection through NeroPay.

The current Insights tools cannot:

initiate payments, send transfers or issue refunds;

change account settings or merchant permissions;

return raw customer transactions or customer details;

provide processing fees, net proceeds or profit reports;

turn an unavailable settlement figure into a guaranteed payout amount.

Read-only does not mean that the information is public. Your reports still contain business information. Choose your AI client carefully, review its data policies and never paste passwords, API secrets or access tokens into a conversation.

Where NeroConnect fits

NeroConnect and NeroPay Insights serve different purposes. NeroConnect supports payment experiences for platforms and SaaS businesses, including connected-account workflows. Insights helps an authorised merchant ask questions about the reporting data available to that account.

A platform relationship does not automatically give an AI assistant visibility into every connected merchant. Insights authorisation remains account-specific. A platform or staff “login as merchant” session is not a substitute for the merchant owner’s direct approval.

That separation is useful: the operational payment experience and the conversational reporting experience can sit within the same wider ecosystem without being treated as the same permission.

How to get started

Check that Insights is enabled for your merchant account and that your AI client supports the required MCP and OAuth connection.

Start the connection from the compatible client using the details on the NeroPay Insights page.

Sign in directly as the merchant account owner and review the requested permissions.

Begin with a specific question about a balance, a sales period or recent transfer statuses.

Check important figures against NeroPay’s reports before making an operational decision.

ChatGPT connection options depend on the account or workspace being used. Availability is not guaranteed for every client or merchant, and an AI-generated explanation should not be treated as a replacement for the underlying report.

Start with one question

You do not need an elaborate prompt to begin. “What were my gross sales over the last 7 days?” is enough to start a useful conversation when your account is connected and the relevant permission is approved.

Explore NeroPay Insights for supported capabilities, connection details and example prompts.
